Live webinar: Deep learning for materials development and additive manufacturing
Join us to find out how machine learning methods are being applied to solve key problems in the design and processing of metal alloys and other advanced materials, with a case study from an additive manufacturing (AM) project involving Intellegens, Boeing, and the AMRC. For more details on this project, see the next item.
Date: 23rd February 2021
Time: 4-5 pm (GMT) // 11 am-12 noon (EST)
Machine learning making light work of additive manufacturing aerospace alloys in collaboration with AMRC and Boeing
Machine learning technology will be used to make the additive manufacturing (AM) process of metallic alloys for aerospace cheaper and faster, encouraging the production of lightweight, energy-efficient aircraft to support net-zero targets for aviation. This will be achieved using active learning experimental design, which results in a reduction of up to 80% in the number of required experimental cycles.
Case study with Welding Alloys Group
Wear is one of the most challenging problems faced by heavy industry. One of the most common methods to combat wear is by welding highly alloyed consumables (hardfacing materials) onto the surfaces of components. This case study describes the journey taken by Welding Alloys Group and Intellegens in applying machine learning to this problem, which resulted in the development of an improved hardfacing material with dramatic cost/benefit advantages, not only from a performance but also from an environmental point of view.
Alchemite™ computational power is enhanced
Alchemite™ Engine uses computational methods that make it extremely fast compared to other machine learning approaches; but in the latest release we’ve made efficiency improvements that make it even faster! Want to know more? Request more information in the link below.
News in short
Cambridge is a hotbed of successful technology companies, so we are very pleased that Intellegens has been listed for the following awards for the Cambridge tech community:
- Shortlisted for the ‘Startup of the Year’ and ‘AI Company of the Year’ awards at the Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards 2020.
- Longlisted as one of the Cofinitive #21toWatch Companies of 2021
- Dr Gareth Conduit, CTO at Intellegens, has been longlisted as one of the Cofinitive #21toWatch People of 2021
Latest papers from Intellegens
- Dr Tom Whitehead, Head of Machine Learning at Intellegens, has published a paper that demonstrates how through judicious sampling from an infinitely large space of possible neural network weights, the regularization of neural networks becomes free of hyperparameters, and hence easier to apply in practice.
- Dr Gareth Conduit, CTO at Intellegens, has published a paper that demonstrates how the widely accepted viewpoint that the quasi-harmonic model proposes, namely that a crystal can be modelled as atoms connected by springs, can be misleading.
We are hiring
We are looking for a Deep Learning Scientist and a Computer Scientist. Learn more about the roles here.
The Intellegens team is growing all the time. This month our featured new starter is Aidan Keay:
Aidan is a physics graduate from the University of Strathclyde, who has joined the front-end team. He will be focusing on the continuous improvement and development of the Alchemite Analytics platform. His first projects have been working with the team on the design and performance of the user interface.
