Integrating modelling approaches gives greater insights
Physics and chemistry simulation and analytical methods are now standard tools in the development of improved materials, chemicals, and formulations. The use of machine learning (ML) is increasing. Both classes of method have advantages and drawbacks. A recent project in which Intellegens collaborated with the Henry Royce Institute and SCM explored the benefits of combining these modelling approaches. The project focused on case studies in alloys and surfactants. Results were presented in a recent webinar and are now published in a new white paper.
New Alchemite™ feature empowers collaboration
When deploying and using machine learning models in teams, it can be difficult to keep track of individual models and to share important results with colleagues. Often, ML software either doesn’t support sharing or forces you to share static representations, such as images and text files. Alchemite™ allows all users with access to a model to view its analytics, experimental designs, and other information. This has now been enhanced with shareable permalinks (which don’t change and can be reused for as long as the model exists), allowing analytics, experimental suggestions, and results to be shared effortlessly with team members, while keeping all the benefits of full interactivity and context at your fingertips.
Customer Advisory Board identifies key industry trends
The Intellegens Customer Advisory Board (CAB) met in June for a day of strategic discussion on the future of machine learning for chemicals, materials, and life sciences. The Board is a group of key user organisations that provides guidance for Intellegens, ensuring our development plans are well-aligned with long-term customer needs. Sectors represented included: specialty chemicals and materials, food and beverage, fast-moving consumer goods, formulated products, and life sciences. Read the report for an overview of some of the key issues and trends identified.
Paper shares new approach to predicting superalloy properties
A new paper from the group of Intellegens CSO Dr Gareth Conduit at the University of Cambridge applies machine learning (ML) to predict superalloy microstructure and creep properties using models that do not require their training datasets to include data on all of the elements present in the proposed alloy. This increases the possibilities for applying machine learning to study potential new alloys, providing advantages over other ML approaches and traditional predictive methods such as CALPHAD.
Blog: ML and Design of Experiments
“Use the right tool for the right job”. That was the mantra from our recent Customer Advisory Board, where many of the member organisations are now using machine learning alongside or, in some scenarios, as a replacement for traditional statistical Design of Experiments (DOE) software. In this month’s blog, we explore some of the reasons why they find ML beneficial.
Recorded webinar: Alchemite™ for academic research
Dr Gareth Conduit is chief scientific officer and co-founder at Intellegens and a Royal Society Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. In our recent webinar, Gareth introduced the Alchemite™ machine learning method and provided examples of its application to academic research in materials science, chemistry, battery research, and life sciences. The Alchemite™ Academic Programme makes access to Alchemite™ affordable and easy for academic researchers.
Meet the team: focus on user experience
We’re restarting our ‘Meet the Team’ social media series to introduce some of the great people who have joined the growing Intellegens team in the last year. First up is Ella Bektas, who also reflects the strong focus we give to optimising user experience. Many Intellegens customers will already be familiar with Ella from her in-depth work interviewing them to understand exactly how and why they use Alchemite™. This work has already generated UX enhancements to the software, such as those in the recent Alchemite™ 2023 Spring Release. Click below to meet Ella and follow us on LinkedIn for more in the series.
