This bold vision motivates our business. We want to create an R&D environment where machine learning (ML) is not a luxury, but fundamental to the use of data across organisations. We’re looking beyond hype about “AI-designed products” and focusing on making ML an everyday tool, integrated with other standard R&D technologies. Used like this, ML will enable you to deliver better, more sustainable products, faster – and you won’t even notice.
What will it take to get there?
Driving innovation – machine learning must be focused on practical tasks to speed up the work of scientists or break through innovation bottlenecks. Three key focus areas are: identifying optimal designs for products and processes; recommending routes to dramatically reduce experimental workloads; and finding relationships in data that would otherwise be missed.
Delivering value – this requires deep thinking about how ML technology is deployed and adopted, informed by experience. ML needs to be presented via task-centric tools and coupled to ‘explainable AI’ technology that enables users to extract insight from ML models, going beyond a ‘predictive black box’.
Wherever data is used – this all starts with a technology that returns useful results even when data is sparse and noisy, a scenario in which most ML methods fail. Then that technology needs to be fast and simple to apply exactly where it is needed in scientists’ workflows – either through integration with other systems or via simple user interfaces.
In R&D – we focus on high-value challenges common to R&D in chemicals, materials, life science, FMCG, and manufacturing – optimising products and processes, experimental design, and complex data analysis.

The leading provider – Intellegens specialises in developing ML software for R&D data analysis, building on our unique Alchemite™ algorithm and providing the right tools to enable its application. This is our sole focus, not diluted by work on related topics, such as providing technical data, data management, or other modelling approaches. Our open, flexible technology is able to integrate with solutions in these areas, enabling a best-in-class approach.
Partnership is vital to our success. This means partnering closely with our customers to understand their challenges, provide them with the scientific services they need to successfully implement and apply our technology, and guide development of new software capabilities based on their input. It also means collaboration with industry organisations and providers of third party solutions to ensure ML is applied where it is needed.
