New Alchemite™ MCP feature delivers next phase in AI vision

The latest development in the Alchemite™ software supports ever-increasing expectations for AI as a driver of scientific productivity.

Alchemite machine learning already finds the key relationships hidden in your data and puts those to work to find new formulations, materials, and chemicals with dramatically lower experimental time and cost. But, with the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Agentic AI, we now expect not just that such powerful research tools will work, but that we can ‘chat’ with them, and that AI will remove the effort of integrating them into our research workflows.

This is the vision that the new Alchemite MCP Server helps to deliver.

New Alchemite™ MCP feature delivers next phase in AI vision

Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are the ‘bridge’ that enable AI models to interact with data sources and tools. By delivering an MCP within the Alchemite environment, the Intellegens development team have enabled Alchemite to ‘talk’ to LLMs such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, and to AI Agents. This lets a user hold a conversation such as that shown in the video below, in which the AI not only makes useful research suggestions, but acts on those suggestions to extract insights and initiate actions based on Alchemite analysis of the available data.

Video demonstration: How the Alchemite MCP server enables Alchemite machine learning analysis to be integrated into a conversation with an LLM (in this case, Claude) enabling a natural workflow for a research scientist studying personal care products.

The new feature delivers the next step in the Agentic AI roadmap at Intellegens, which began with the launch of Alchemite™ Insight – offering LLM-powered guidance and advice on interpreting results from Alchemite analyses – and is working towards a true agentic AI framework which supports experimental design, formulation development, and materials discovery by orchestrating tools and workflows directly from natural language input.

Alchemite users can find information on implementing the MCP server in the Alchemite documentation, accessible from the help panel within Alchemite.
