Design of Experiments at Tosoh Bioscience
Next week’s Intellegens webinar will demonstrate how the AI-driven design of experiments (DoE) platform Alchemite™ was used at Tosoh Bioscience to identify purification conditions that maximize both product purity and recovery for an important class of therapeutics – oligonucleotides. We will show how AI-guided experimentation reduced the number of laboratory experiments.

Give your experimental designs a voice
New Alchemite™ Insight Chat brings natural language interaction directly into core analysis, experimental design, and prediction tasks for scientists developing formulations, materials, chemicals, and processes. This new capability makes it possible for Alchemite™ users to ask follow-up questions at any stage of their workflow. You can uncover patterns in data and investigate the reasons behind them, get clear explanations on how to improve target outcomes when designing experiments, or explore design possibilities by digging into the chemistry or materials science behind your predictions.
New project explores potential of World Models
Intellegens has been selected from over 600 applications to receive one of the Frontier AI grants from Innovate UK. This major initiative is advancing development of state-of-the-art AI and machine learning in the UK. Our project, “Adaptive World Models for Experimental Design”, blends next-gen AI and physics simulation to radically accelerate the development of new materials and the products they are used to make. The properties of a product often depend on a long, complex sequence of manufacturing steps. Today’s machine learning tools optimize each stage in isolation, blind to how one shapes the next. The use of “world models” changes that. This class of AI can learn a system’s dynamics and plan across the whole route.
User Group Meeting to share ML experience
The Alchemite™ user community will meet online in October to learn from the experiences of other users, hear about the latest Alchemite™ features, get an insight into the future through product roadmaps, and get tips to maximize value from their use of the software. The session will include case study presentations from organizations in the food and beverage, materials, and manufacturing industries, as well as talks, demonstrations, and Q&A sessions with the Intellegens team.

Formulating success for FMCG
We’ll be attending the upcoming SCS Formulate event organised by the Society for Cosmetic Science – find us on booth 235 and join Dr Tom Whitehead’s talk on machine learning for cosmetics formulation. We recently had some great interactions at the Future Food-Tech London conference. These events illustrate the growing interest in machine learning tools to assist formulation development for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) applications such as personal care products, foods, beverages, and flavourings.
Exploring the maths behind ML
Readers who like to dig into the maths behind machine learning models might be interested in the latest paper from Intellegens CSO, Dr Gareth Conduit, and his collaborator, Dr Bahdan Zviazhynski. Published in the journal Algorithms, the paper proposes a new metric to balance accuracy and uncertainty in ML predictions, in support of real-world applications.
