How long have you been working at Intellegens and what is your position?
I joined Intellegens in 2021 and I’m working as the Head of Technical Pre-Sales. My role involves enabling productive conversations with R&D organizations that are interested in our technology, leading to them implementing a solution that can accelerate their innovation. This includes data validation, pilot projects, assisting with data formatting, writing API scripts, and other tasks to demonstrate the value of our tools. I also collaborate closely with the Intellegens sales and product development teams to tailor solutions to meet specific client needs, providing technical expertise and insights throughout the sales process.
What is your favourite part about working at Intellegens?
My favourite part is using new technologies to solve real-world problems, especially when I see how those solutions can contribute to lowering environmental impacts. I truly believe machine learning has a transformative part to play in helping us meet net zero goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By being smarter, we can innovate quicker and achieve these goals, while also accelerating learning and knowledge generation. It’s truly an exciting area to be in!
What is your career/education background?
Before my current role, I was a Principal Machine Learning Scientist, where I worked on complicated machine learning problems like virtual compound screening, core temperature modelling, and squeezing machine learning onto edge devices. I hold a PhD in Materials Science and Machine Learning from the University of Leicester. Throughout my career, I’ve published 20 papers contributing significantly to the fields of machine learning and materials science. My experience includes developing machine learning solutions for clients such as BP, Rolls-Royce, and NASA. I am also a Chartered Engineer and a member of various professional organisations.
What is something that you think makes Intellegens stand out from other companies?
I think Intellegens stands out because we are creating the tools that are going to help R&D scientists across the globe achieve their goals faster. We are doing that using new and innovative technologies. I love working for a company that’s at the forefront of tech in this sector, and I get to work with some really amazing companies and people. I’m in a fortunate situation where I can work across many projects in a wide diversity of domains—from cheese, to nuclear, to aerospace—with some of the best R&D professionals in the world. Nothing is better than standing in a room full of experts and seeing them get excited by the potential of such tools in their day-to-day life.
What does a perfect day look like to you?
A perfect day for me is when I get asked to deliver some in-person training or meet a new or prospective customer in a different country. I’ve been all around the world with the company, from Beijing and Singapore to the USA. I love traveling and seeing new things, and the role I have gives me the unique opportunity to travel the world and experience new cultures and countries.
