Meet the Team
We have asked the members of the Intellegens team a few questions so that you can get to know them better. Here, we introduce Ben Pellegrini, CEO of Intellegens.
- How long have you been working at Intellegens and what is your role?
I’m CEO and Co-Founder so I’ve been here since day one! When we first started in 2017, I worked from our kitchen table, and moved into Eagle Labs in 2018 when our first employee started. Obviously our team has grown a lot since then, and continues to grow, so my role has shifted from being hands-on with technology to mostly team management and representing Intellegens externally.
- What is your favourite part about working at Intellegens?
I really enjoy collaborating with people at the forefront of innovation and seeing the impact of our tools across a range of industries. Alchemite is now being used to develop next generation alloys, reduce toxic components in chemicals and help in drug discovery.
- What is your career/education background?
I did a degree in Systems Engineering at Sheffield University then went straight into industry, initially working with large Oracle data systems for big enterprises and then setting up my own software consultancy. This led to involvement in a number of startups, to CTO level, which gave me the motivation to think about my own startup. Following a chance introduction to Gareth Conduit – Co-Founder of Intellegens – we saw an opportunity to combine our skills and make an impact through application of AI to solve a range of problems.
- What is something that you think makes Intellegens stand out from other companies?
There are a few things that really make us different, but really I think it’s the combination of skills in our team – having world leading algorithms that are constantly evolving and being tested, a strong engineering capability enabling these approaches to be deployed and, most importantly, a core focus on delivering results for our customers.
- What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Spending time with my family and travelling are things I enjoy most – I’ve done a lot of the former but obviously none of the latter over the last year! My young son and teenage daughter keep me on my toes and I spend most weekends on rainy football pitches or by the river Cam – my daughter’s a keen rower. If I’m lucky I might get time for some cycling or running. We’ve recently bought a paddleboard so I’m hoping the weather improves so we can get out on the water.
